Many books, in particular scholarly ones, nowadays and in the past have been published using money subsidized by the tax-payers (grants, endowments, doi2anonst30;). The difference with vanity and self-publish is that the tax-payers pay for the publication not the writer in the latter cases. Do you categorize this as subsidized or vanity publishing?
